About

Only His Words began as a simple question: what did Jesus actually say? The four Gospels are full of narration, dialogue from other people, and editorial detail — this site sets all of that aside and keeps only his recorded words, arranged the way you'd read a book rather than look up a verse.

How the text was prepared

The source text is the King James Version, which is in the public domain. Each gospel was worked through episode by episode; where a verse mixes narration ("Jesus answered and said unto them,") with a quotation, only the spoken portion is kept. Where Jesus tells a parable, the whole parable is included, since he is its narrator. These boundaries follow ordinary red-letter Bible convention, not an official red-letter edition, so they should be read as a close approximation for study and reflection rather than a scholarly or doctrinal source.

Why background notes

A saying read on its own can lose the situation that shaped it — who was asking, what had just happened, why the words landed the way they did. Each episode carries a short note on that context, written to orient a reader quickly rather than to settle any particular interpretation.
